Our founder Charles Mawer had a single mantra—“do the right thing”—for clients, employees, and the community. His unrivalled integrity continues to guide us today.
Firm Overview
Founded in 1974, Mawer Investment Management Ltd. (pronounced “more”) is a privately owned, independent investment firm, managing approximately $84.2 billion in assets for individual and institutional investors across all major asset classes. We employ over 250 people in Calgary, Toronto, the U.S., and Singapore.
For over 50 years, we have provided investment management for our clients using our “boring” investment approach. This approach has helped our clients safely and profitably navigate the investing landscape over many economic cycles. Our mission is to be our clients’ most trusted investment manager by delivering long-term investment excellence, building strong client partnerships, and making a commitment to do the right thing—always.

We work in an open, non-hierarchical culture which encourages candid communication, fosters trust, and thereby enables effective decision-making throughout the firm. After all, diversity of thought within a team is meaningless unless individuals have the humility to hold their stories lightly and to engage in respectful debate.
Ideas matter—not titles. We strive to be honest, humble, relentlessly curious, and to seek continual improvement. We think and act like owners and are comfortable giving up short-term wins for long-term success. This culture supports a decision-making and workplace environment that is clear, focused, and passionate, helping to contribute to high retention rates within the team.
